When the light of a new day washed over Fort McHenry on the morning of September 14, 1814, the stars and stripes became the symbol of an infant nation in the hands of an eternal God. Francis Scott Key felt compelled to capture the emotion he felt when he witnessed the Great Garrison Flag flying over the Baltimore fort following a relentless British attack. The land of the free and the home of the brave saw God move a nation forward against all odds.
