This is a difficult Christmas for me. I can relate to those who go through this season with an undertow of sadness. On the surface people move around and past you with a palpable excitement, wearing a smile you wish you could return. Beneath the surface, there are things no one can see but God: hearts that ache from grief and suffering, souls that feel lost in a sea of loneliness.
We might think we understand what others are going through by way of shared experiences, but we are unique individuals who bear and process emotions differently. God, our Father…Jesus, our Savior…and our Comforter, the Holy Spirit, see and understand fully. Their love, gentleness, and mercy are with us. They see tears shed in darkness and prayers lifted in silence.
The One born to carry our burdens and give His life for our sin felt every emotion we do. We won’t find a greater understanding, compassion, or comfort than Jesus offers—and it’s enveloped in an eternal love more consuming than we can imagine.
God has infinite attention for each one of us. He doesn’t have to take us in the line. You’re as much alone with Him as if you were the only thing He’d ever created. — C.S. Lewis
