It is God Himself who has made us what we are and given us new lives from Christ Jesus; and long ages ago He planned that we should spend these lives in helping others. (Ephesians 2:10)
God’s plan for each of us is unique in many ways, but in one way is always the same—to spend our lives helping others. It was His plan for us before we took our first breath, because He knew our journey would be blessed as a result. Helping others keeps our focus on love and every definition of it: Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in truth. (1 Corinthians 13:4-7) Helping one another glorifies God and reminds us what a celebration that is. It cultivates a deep joy in us, one that’s secured in Him and hard to uproot. The world runs from one popular trend to another seeking a sustainable joy, to no avail. Seeking to live a life of love that mirrors the life of Jesus is the only way to fill our days with joy…and fulfill God’s plan for our life.
“If you live by feelings, you are looking for joy where it never can be found.” -Charles Spurgeon
