“Praise the power that hath made and preserv’d us as a nation!” To this little-known lyric of “The Star Spangled Banner,” we offer a passionate Amen! The final verse of our national anthem then suggests this be our motto: “In God is our trust.” Complete and unwavering trust in God is a decision. It’s one we hope all of our leaders make every day. In this world of brokenness, suffering, and constant trials, the bravery it takes to lead with divine intention and direction comes from God alone.
Prayerfully, we support those in authority, asking God to give them the courage to fight for His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. “Wait for the Lord, and he will come and save you! Be brave, stouthearted, and courageous. Yes, wait and he will help you” (Psalm 27:14). Things will not always go the way we think they should or the way we want them to. But there is never a right time to question God’s sovereignty. For the sake of strength and unity, we have to be brave enough to trust God implicitly. “The Lord is still in his holy temple; he still rules from heaven. He closely watches everything that happens here on earth” (Psalm 11:4).
