One day the earth will bask in the perfect peace of Jesus and we’ll know His love completely. Even now, we can be submersed in a peace beyond our circumstances when we get to a quiet place and fix our thoughts on Him. Where our mind goes, our body follows. When our soul is calm, our spirit rests. Rest is the single most beneficial, restorative gift God has given us. He never intended for us to feel badly about stepping away from the demands of this world to slow down, focus on our well-being, and delight in Him. When we rest, we’re better able to put the pieces of our lives into the right order—which results in balanced, more peaceful days.
When we have peace of heart and mind in Jesus, it permeates everything we do and everything we face. What’s around us is always affected by what’s going on in us, and that includes the way we love the people in our lives. Though we try our best, we can’t separate a tired, weary spirit from an impatient, emotional response. They’re bound together subconsciously. If we haven’t taken the time to rest in the Lord, quiet the world, and reset our soul to complete trust in God’s control, things get messy.
Take the time. Everyone wins. God’s love is the most comforting, peaceful, perfect place to find rest, and getting away with Him can be as simple as taking a walk. It can be as spontaneous as going into a room alone and closing the door behind you, for as many minutes as you can manage. We look forward to the peace we’ll enjoy when Jesus rules the nations, but living in it now takes a deliberate and constant connection. He’s the source of all the things we need to maintain peace in our lives. When the Holy Spirit controls our lives he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23) The peace of God is always worth the time it takes to rest and reset.
Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end. Isaiah 9:7
