WHO ELSE?
Who else has held the oceans in His hands? Isaiah 40:12
Who else holds the pages of your life in His hands? Who else holds the hope of your days in His hands? Who else holds you, and everything you need, in His hands? The magnitude and fullness of God is more than our minds can comprehend. But I believe our hearts can perceive it in the things He created. Very often I see people standing on the beach at the water’s edge, still and gazing outward. The ocean is magnificent. God has held it in His hands. The magnitude and fullness of who He is has a piercing effect here.
On days that feel overwhelming, the ocean is a perfect reminder that the things we worry about are underwhelming against God’s presence and promise: “I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.” Isaiah 46:4 There’s nothing that can keep Him from coming to our rescue. There’s nothing in this world that can stop Him from carrying us when our strength is spent. Even when we don’t have an ounce of fight left in us, God won’t turn away. He can’t. We are His. Our names are engraved on the palms of His hands. (Isaiah 49:16)
Our rushed lives make it easy to forget how taken care of we are. We have routines, to-do’s, obligations, and unexpected challenges that disrupt all of the daily things. The weight comes when we let the duties or disruptions distract us from the truth. It takes one second to move our thoughts from the problem to the presence of the One who will give us what we need to solve or survive it. Pray continually. For wisdom. For patience. For pause to think about the promise that can’t fail: “I will sustain you.” Rest isn’t a thing we pencil in on our calendars, it’s a mindset we learn to live. I’m not in this alone. God knew this was coming. I have everything I need to handle this because my strength is in Him…and He’s held the oceans in His hands.
Father, thank You for resetting my heart to rest, by reminding me to choose the You’ve-got-me so we’ve got this mindset today.
